Several quality wide receivers could be Dallas Cowboys draft targets in the early rounds of the 2022 NFL draft. After the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and lost Cedrick Wilson in free agency, there is a significant hole at the wide receiver position. Luckily there is no shortage of wide receiver talent available in the draft and here are a few options for the Cowboys to consider:

CHRIS OLAVE, OHIO STATE

Chris Olave could be a natural replacement for Amari Cooper should the Cowboys choose to draft him in the first round. Olave is an excellent route runner who has the ability to create separation and get open much the same way Cooper could. He can be lined up on the outside as well as in the slot for Dallas. Olave is not a big, physical player but he is explosive. He posted a blazing fast 4.39 40 yard dash at the NFL combine and possesses big play ability that would allow him to make an immediate impact on the Cowboys offense.

TREYLON BURKS, ARKANSAS

Many Cowboys fans have become enamored with Treylon Burks leading up to the draft. Dallas’ front office must also be impressed with the gifted receiver from Jerry Jones alma mater at Arkansas. That is because Burks, along with Olave, will be one of the Cowboys official pre-draft 30 visits. Burks is a big, athletic, playmaker who can terrorize defenses with the ball in his hands. He does not separate like Olave can, but he has the ability to make contested catches on jump balls. He is also extremely dangerous after the catch. He is a legitimate threat to score on short passes because of his ability to break tackles and run through defenders. He was even used in the backfield at Arkansas for that reason. A player like Burks would be a unique weapon for Kellen Moore to add to his offensive arsenal.

GEORGE PICKENS, GEORGIA

George Pickens could be an option for the Cowboys if they do not draft a WR in the first round. The Georgia standout should be available in the second round due to injury concerns and a deep pool of WR talent. Pickens would provide the Cowboys with a deep threat who has quality size and speed and excellent hands and ball tracking skills.

JOHN METCHIE III, ALABAMA

John Metchie III is coming off of an ACL tear which will impact his draft stock. He could be an option for the Cowboys in either the second or third round. He could immediately start as a slot receiver as a rookie if the Cowboys do draft him. Metchie is an extremely smart and hard nosed football player coming from the wide receiver factory at Alabama. He is a very good route runner and he is highly elusive in the open field with the ball in his hands. He could quickly evolve into one of Dak Prescott’s most trusted options in the passing game if he is drafted by Dallas.
