Why Cowboy fans should root for the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Is there anything more annoying than hearing Eagles fans squawk?  Probably not, and I have had to endure more than my fair share of it during Philadelphia’s unlikely run to the Super Bowl this year.  As a Cowboy fan, I hate a lot of teams, but none more than the Eagles.  Not the Steelers, not the Patriots, not the Giants and not even the Redskins.  To me, Philly is public enemy number 1.  I can’t stand their team and I can’t stand their fans.  They are a bunch of classless animals and they played in the only stadium that contains an actual jail cell within its walls.  So why am I rooting for them to beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl?  It is simple, I love the Cowboys more than I hate the Eagles.

Let me be quite clear, this is not about representing our conference or our division.  No, I could care less about cheering for the NFC or the NFC East.  This is about bragging rights.  All time bragging rights.  The bottom line is a rivalry comes a distant second to a legacy.  The Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since 1995, but they are a team with a championship pedigree.  8 Super Bowl appearances and 5 Super Bowl Championships to be exact.  Only the Steelers have more championships than Dallas with 6 and that irks me to the very core.  But we are not alone with 5.  The 49ers and the Patriots also have 5 championships and I will be damned if I have to watch Tom Brady raise another Super Bowl championship this year.

There is a lot of disagreement among Cowboy fans right now on who, if any team, they should root for in the Super Bowl.  But I call upon Cowboy nation to unite for a common and just cause.  Forget the petty rivalry with the Eagles and think big picture.  We are fans of the Dallas Cowboys, America’s Team and the most valuable franchise in all of sports.  Our goal as a fan base should be no less than becoming the greatest and most decorated team in the league no matter what rival has to win to achieve it.
