Cowboys Fans the “Rowdiest”?

Dallas Cowboys fans have a bit of an undeserving reputation among other fanbases around the league. I can personally attest to this. Whether it be on social media or even attending games in person, the abuse I have been subjected too is completely unwarranted. I have been accused of being delusional, annoying, loud mouthed, fair weather, bandwagoner, and simply described as “the worst”. None of this I believe to be true of course; And, even if any of it were true, it doesn’t automatically apply to ALL Cowboy fans. We come in all shapes and sizes, age groups, and temperaments. No two of us are alike, and yet we are like many other fanbases around the league; Diverse, united, and proud.

The biggest thing that separates us from the rest of the league’s fan bases is the sheer number of us. There are a great many of us and we are everywhere. That is probably what makes us so “annoying” to fans of other teams around the league. When “America’s Team” comes to your home town, no matter where it is in America, half of the stadium is wearing blue and silver; And yes, that must be annoying. The fact that we call ourselves “America’s Team” annoys the crap (pardon my French) out of every other fan base in the country. Never mind that being America’s Team is actually our moniker which was adapted all the way back in the 70’s. Yes, no matter how poorly our team performs on the football field, the Cowboys are still going to be “America’s Team”. Just like the Browns are the “Dawg Pound”, the Raiders are the “Black Hole” and the Bills are the “Bills Mafia”, those labels are part of the culture and can never be stripped away. It’s just our thing! Other teams have their things, it just is what it is.

Aside from being America’s Team, in general, most words that Dallas Cowboys fans would use to describe themselves differs a great deal with words that fans of other teams would use to describe us; But, if there is one adjective that both our fan base as well as other fan bases can both agree on as an apt description of Cowboys fans, it would probably be “Rowdy”. That is after all the name of our mascot. The term has both negative and positive connotations and can therefore be used with our without prejudice.

So for that reason, I can agree that Cowboy fans are certainly a rowdy bunch, but are we the Rowdiest bunch? I would say we definitely rank near the top but there are a few fan bases that could give us a run for our money. Well, in a recent survey conducted by Bookies.com, fans across the country were asked who they thought the “Rowdiest” fans in the NFL were. The Dallas Cowboys ranked 3rd in the league among 32 teams. Who ranked ahead of them? You might have guessed that one fan base who has gained notoriety among Cowboys fans in particular, ranked at the top of the list. The fan base who famously cheered when Michael Irvin suffered a career ending neck injury, booed and hurled snowballs at Santa Claus, and celebrated a Super Bowl victory by flipping over cars, breaking windows, climbing up street poles, and even eating horse feces off of the ground. Yes, you guessed it…Eagles fans. Here is the full list of results from that survey courtesy of Bookies.com
